Emergency Notification Device: The LifeBug Clay Mock-Ups

Here is first clay mock up version of the LifeBug. I wanted to create something to not only show my classmates and professor a visual mock up of my ideas but also have it serve as a point-by-point record of my visual design for the device.

The overall idea is to build an emergency call unit for elderly users. A emergency call unit that is simple, elegant, customizable and most importantly something that the elderly population will want to wear at all times.

I am exploring on how I can use and build upon a watch design because it can be worn at all times, its quite convenient, and I believe that I can address some of the concerns that affect the emergency call devices much easier in this design form.

The LifeBug is be an active GPS powered alert system that will help overcome any range limitation currently in place with the current form of devices in the market today. The Lifewatch will have a separable and customizable faceplate, which can be easily carried in the pocket or bag in case the user decides on wearing a regular watch.

The LifeBug will be made out of colorful flexible plastic and my overall design is to make it as simple as possible so that it can be used as quickly and easily a possible to send out alerts notices in case of an emergency. I have used modeling Clay that I bought from Pearl for the few models below but for the second version will use plaster to make the shape and perhaps silicone for the final design of the device.
